What to look for in a gym legging.

Buying the perfect pair of leggings can be confusing and time consuming.  We’re here to help make the process pleasurable!  Not only do we give as much useful info on the website as we can, we are also on the end of a Whats App for instant answers (07973 861996)

To help you further we’ve done a quick 101 of what to look for in a legging for Strength, Running, Cardio and Stretch.

Strength Training

Compression and support are key.  Compression both supports and stabilises your muscles whilst you train by absorbing some of the strain as you squeeze your muscles.  It’s also been proven to help increase the blood flow and therefore muscle oxygenation, this not only helps reduce muscle fatigue but also speeds up muscle repair and recovery after training.

A soft, supportive and wide waistband for core control and comfort.  No one wants a waistband that digs in when they are squatting or bending over.

Compression leggings can be knitted, soft and warm to touch, or they can be the cool to touch and silky. An example of knitted seamless compression is our Casall Block Seamless Leggings, whilst a cool to touch silky legging would be P.E Nations Super Set Legging. We also love the All Fenix Chocolate Cheetah Legging and Lorna Janes New Booty Support Tight.

Running

Cool to touch, sweat wicking material is what you are looking for here, and something that fits like a second skin so it doesn’t slip whilst running.  We actually take a size smaller in some brands for running leggings to ensure a really snug fit. Pockets are also a plus for running leggings so you can store a house key, credit card and energy gel easily and an internal drawstring waistband is great for a more secure fit too. Our favourites at the moment are P.E. Nations Salto Legging and Break Out Legging, Lilybods Mono Legging and Colette-2XR, Casalls Iconic 7/8 Legging with Pockets and Varley’s brand new Let’s Go Running Legging.

Studio Cardio

If it’s spin, HIIT or anything else that’s going to get you hot and sweaty you need cool-to-touch, sweat wicking, light weight material, a soft waistband that won’t dig in when bending over and something seriously stylish as you are probably going out to do this and hopefully even meeting up with friends!  Our favourite studio leggings for cardio are Koral’s Lustrous Legging and Drive Cheetara, Varley’s Let’s Go Super High Rise, Noli’s Liquid Legging (mid-waisted, perfect for spin), P.E Nations Tie-Break Legging ,  Lilybod’s Brooklyn Legging and The Upside’s Boombox Legging.

Studio Stretch

Sleek, smooth and buttery-soft.  Warm and soft to touch fabrics with soft waist bands and smoothing lines.  These legging should not restrict any movement with 4 way stretch technology.  Our favourites are Varley’s Let’s Move Leggings and Century Leggings available in lots of different patterns and colours, All Fenix Montana Latte Legging and Kyla Legging , Lorna Janes Venom Ankle Biter and The Upside Malibu Palm Legging
